Press Release #1

Philadelphia, PA – The Frator Heru Institute is excited to announce the launch of its newest initiative – MY BAaBEE Counts Too, a project supported by Philly Counts 2020 Action Fund.

Given the importance of the US Census as it relates to decisions about educational subsidies, community development and social services, MY BAaBEE Counts Too was created to help educate and engage people in the 2020 Census toward the goal of a full count.  This initiative is one of many throughout the city and the nation as part of the Count All Kids Campaign.  Since the 2010 Census missed more than 10% of all children age 5 and under, special efforts are being made to identify and engage the parents/caregivers in hard-to-count communities.

Over the next several months, residents of North Philadelphia will be treated with public service announcements, community outreach activities, and social media networking to get the word out.  A series of workshops will be held to engage youth in the creation of a new superhero character and origin story related to the Census.  The new character will be used in educational and promotional materials, shared with educators and trusted messengers, preparing the way for the people to count our children.  The workshops will be followed up with presentations at The Frator Heru Institute and at community centers in North Philly’s hard-to-count neighborhoods.

Public presentations and promotional materials will be given at the monthly meetings of Grands As Parents (Saturday, February 15th / 11:00am) and Uptown Entertainment & Development Corporation Program Cmte (Tuesday, March 10th / 6:00pm).  More presentations will be announced as they are scheduled.
